Hajimemashite. It has come to my attention that my newly formed blog needs a name. Therefore, blog, I christen thee “SOS Blog!” Short for “Sekai wo Ooini moriageru tame no Suzumiya haruhi no blog.”
~~and that’s the Suzumiya rant of the day. Homemade WTF moment for all you. heh, anyway so the real name of this blog is ShinjiArimasuka, and that’s all for introductions in this first post. More info about the site here.
Shortly after the creation of this blog, my sister asked me, Why create a blog? Why not just create a Xanga or a MySpace like every other teenager out there. My answer? Just because of that reason, it should be enough. Who wants to be like every other teenager out there. However, there are other more valid reasons. First off, Xangas and MySpaces can both be tailored to serve the exact same purpose as a blog. However, I use the analogy of a shaman’s spirit medium: any medium can be used, but you want to use ones more specialized for your ghost – one that is better suited to put your ghosts abilities to most efficient use. For non-anime fans out there, think of a taxi. A taxi and a regular car can do the exact same thing – drive people around. However, taxis are built to serve a special purpose. If you force them to, they can do the same thing of course, but then that wouldn’t be using your resources most efficiently.
So here, Xangas and MySpaces are your taxis. They are specially designed as online journals, places where you can write about your own personal life specifically. You can chose to write about other things, and they would serve your purpose just fine, but creating a normal blog instead using WordPress allows for more efficient use of features. Long story short, I feel that using WordPress over Xanga/MS allows me to take advantage of both the environment and the tools to do more than just write about my personal life.
An additional plus (one better for my sister), is that blogs don’t have the same stigma as Xangas and MSs. It’s all over the news now, poor bastard kids keep getting victimized by online predators cuz they’re not careful with their information. Now the other half a million online users are in danger, so my sister can’t have a Xanga, cuz she’s a potential victim. For some reason, normal blogs, perhaps cuz of the more professional environment, but more likely because it’s not THE place to be for such clueless teeny-boppers, don’t have this stigma. In any case, you won’t see this blogger having something shoved up his anytime soon…
…and that switchblade in my pocket is only cuz NYC is a dangerous place at night.
P.S. I do have a Facebook.
