First off, TV Tokyo is not the only company that broadcasts anime.

Secondly, it’s not like people on YouTube don’t have a “right” to anime, if anything it’s the japanese producers who have a right to protect their work from pirates who don’t pay for it. It may be hypocritical for me to say since I download fansubs, but the blame of greed should definitely not be placed on those who make our anime. I’m not sure whether you’re aware of the salary of animators, but it is astonishingly low. Japanese animators make anime because it’s their job, it’s only right for them to protect it. With that said, if there was a crackdown on fansubs as well, I wouldn’t be happy either but the last person to receive blame from me would be the Japanese producers.

And yes, you can say that I believe such bad quality should not exist. It is definitely shameful to the creators that tens of thousands of potential viewers are not only not paying for their anime, but aren’t even viewing their work in its proper form, but in a significantly inferior .flv form. “Oh, but Youtube quality really isn’t that bad!” Maybe not for stuff like say…Naruto fillers, but I don’t care how good quality those .flv are they can never show the true brilliance of a Ghibli or a KyoAni work.

And for the point that was brought up that “it’s not laziness, it’s ignorance of torrents and downloading”. Guess what? That’s laziness right there. Those of us who do download took the time and effort to learn how. There’s no excuse other than laziness for those who don’t know how and don’t learn. Youtube provided these viewers less of an incentive to learn, and the result is thousands of people experiencing badly shown anime.

There is only one benefit that I acknowledge of Youtube, and that is that it spreads anime awareness. Guess what though? That was the original purpose of fansubs: to spread awareness and encourage DVD purchases. The fansubs were meant to be downloaded and experienced in the best practical quality possible with current encoding technology, not some watered down version on Youtube where people cannot fully appreciate the hard work of the animators.

Your argument seems very naive, in that its all opinion, your saying because sometimes the quality is bad it should not be allowed access to? Really? The fact of the matter is people care for Anime so much that although it may at times be bad quality they can still enjoy it. Even with that said there are many who have learned to upload with great quality.

What makes it shameful to the creators that others would take their work and spend time uploading their videos? That others may watch with views numbering the tens of thousands?

If it is an abosolute need for you to have good quality than continue to download as you please. Just note that for many others out there who dont know how to get their favorite anime other than Youtube will lose this ability.

Its too bad Greed was the true cause of this. More money for TV tokyo if there episodes arent uploaded. Money saved for Youtube in avoidance of a Lawsuit. There is a reason why it made the list of fatal sins.

So yeah, hopefully you will acknowledge the benefits from Good anime that come from Youtube, and not disregard a great service due to your naive opinions of quality

Da Capo is one of those shows you kind of just watch for the girls, I guess. I have yet to really watch it but I like Aisha most. Needs moar Yoriko too.

I’m ashamed to admit I didn’t notice Shori outside the hospital, or the peach juice on the bus. I guess doing screencapping still has its advantages :P.

I’m going to have to disagree with your comment, however, that “shoujo anime are not supposed to have great plots.” It may be the case that most shoujo anime indeed don’t have great plots, but it would be a correlation/causation fallacy to say that shoujo anime never need great plots just because the majority of them do not. Perhaps one day shoujo anime would better appeal to the other gender more if these so-called “great plots” would appear more frequently within that genre.

With that said, it is not even necessary for any anime to have a great plot for me to be satisified. It’s not that I’m unable to enjoy anime with less-developed plots (as I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the likes of Azumanga Daioh, Ai Yori Aoshi, and Cowboy Bebop) Shoujo does not have a monopoly on slice-of-life anime (the type that are usually weak on the plot-side), and slice-of-life anime clearly does not have to = sux0rz for me.

I guess the whole point here is that I should not treat Ouran differently just because it’s labelled “shoujo.” Some would argue, in fact, that these terms are outdated now, since there’s a good number of females viewing shounen and males viewing shoujo. If an anime is bad (which Ouran is not), I’m not gonna be lenient on it just cuz it’s shoujo. Anime is anime, and all anime can have points of discussion from many angles. Just because I’m pointing out a plot inconsistancy here doesn’t mean I’m judging it harshly either, it’s just something else to talk about. I’m seeking understanding of Ouran, which is something I wouldn’t do for an anime I don’t believe is worthy.

In the meantime, I’m going to ask that you reread my first paragraph if you really believe I’m judging Ouran too harshly.

Fanboyism is not necessarily a bad thing (as I’m guilty of that often), but it really can blind logic in some people.
